Screening & Talk: Ito Tari’s Where is the Fear?<\/strong><\/h1>\n

We are pleased to present Screening & Talk: Ito Tari’s <\/span>Where is the Fear?.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Ito Tari was a Japanese performance artist who created works on the theme of gender and sexuality and also came out as a lesbian in her performance <\/span>Self-Portrait<\/span><\/i> in 1996. She continued to work on performances dealing with political and social issues, such as <\/span>military violence against women, and the fear of radiation exposure after the Fukushima nuclear disaster<\/span>. She also worked as an activist, running the Women’s Art Network (WAN) and PA\/FSPACE, creating spaces for people to interact.<\/span><\/p>\n

After Ito’s death, Tarinokai has been organizing materials for archiving, including documentary videos, books, and ephemera (flyers and other materials).<\/span><\/p>\n

This program includes a screening of a video recording of Ito’s performance <\/span>Where is the Fear?<\/span><\/i> and a talk session. Tarinokai and the artist FAQ? will be invited as guests to create an opportunity for multifaceted discussion on her work and the archives.<\/span><\/p>\n

FAQ? (Komiya Lisa Marina, Tanikawa Kanae)
\n<\/span>FAQ? is a platform launched in 2021 by artists Komiya Lisa Marina and Tanikawa Kanae. They are practicing across disciplines, including exchange diaries, events, exhibitions, publishing zines, and researching and archiving past artists.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tarinokai (Nishimura, Satokin)
\n<\/span>Tarinokai is a group dedicated to organizing Ito Tari’s belongings and preserving a record of her diverse activities. The group supports publicizing materials related to Ito at exhibitions and events, including Yebisu International Festival for Art & Alternative Visions (Tokyo Photographic Art Museum).<\/span><\/p>\n
