Lecture Abstract:
\n<\/strong>There\u2019s no time to lose to reposition the art of music within the\u00a0everyday life of\u00a0people in the 21st century. How can we approach music itself without becoming overly preoccupied by the framework of performance practice within which it sits, creating a quasi-dilettante style firewall that prevents people from enjoying music as it really is? This workshop, conceived, created and executed by Michael Spencer, is an ambitious endeavor to gain different perspectives on music, especially so-called ‘classical music\u2019. \u00a0 Experience totally different ways of getting closer to music, and explore your own channels for connecting with the Arts\u00a0in general.<\/p>\nProfile:
\n<\/strong>Michael SPENCER
\n<\/strong>Formerly a member of the London Symphony Orchestra, and Head of Education at Royal Opera House in London, Michael Spencer is currently a visiting professor at Ueno Gakuen University, Tokyo and Director of Communication for the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.\u00a0 He both devises and presents a number of collaborative programs throughout Japan with organizations including Mori Art Museum, Muza Kawasaki, Mori Building and Shizuoka Grand Ship. He is also an acknowledged specialist in cultural enterprise, working with clients ranging from the Intercontinental Hotel Group to Pricewaterhouse Cooper, Fuji-Xerox to the Japan Innovation Network. The year 2016 marked his 6th year as an advisor and presenter for the Leonardo European Corporate Learning Awards in Germany, and the 20th anniversary of the nationwide music\/arts education and training program he established in Japan. He has also collaborated with Aoyama Gakuin\u2019s Department of Social Informatics in a research program supporting the introduction of the new national curriculum in 2020. 2018 will see the publication in Asia of his family-focused suite of pocket books, Mike-san\u2019s Music Notes for Parents<\/em>.<\/p>\nOrganized by Kazumi Minoguchi Lab, Tokyo University of the Arts Graduate School of Global Arts<\/p>\n
