With support from Frieze Academy and Office for Diversity & Inclusion at Tokyo University of the Arts, Eri KAWADE \u2013 Research Associate of Department of Arts Studies and Curatorial Practices at TUA Graduate School of Global Arts \u2013 is pleased to announce that Jennifer HIGGIE, Editorial Director of frieze<\/em>, the leading international magazine of contemporary art and culture, will be conducting a public lecture \u2018How to Write about Contemporary Art\u2019, on the evening of December 7, 2017 at the Ueno Campus.<\/p>\n

Frieze was founded in 1991 by Amanda Sharp, Matthew Slotover and Tom Gidley with the launch of frieze<\/em> magazine, a leading magazine of contemporary art and culture. \u00a0Frieze Academy<\/em> was launched in 2016, with various programs taking place in London, New York and Berlin, one of which is a one-day workshop series \u201cHow to Write about Art\u201d. The day-long lecture provides practical and inspiring advice from a range of internationally-renowned art critics and editors about how to respond to a work of art, review a show or profile an artist and more.<\/p>\n

The TUA lecture is a condensed, two-hour version of the lecture and will draw on Jennifer HIGGIE\u2019s 20-year-experience as a writer and editor. It will cover a range of topics such as pitching an idea to an editor, which publication to write for, and what editors are looking for. The lecture will be the first Frieze Academy<\/em> lecture in Japan and will be conducted in English via Skype connecting London and Tokyo.\u00a0Translations into Japanese will be offered to by the Hostess\/Moderator.<\/p>\n

Open to all the students and faculty members of TUA and the general public from outside of the University. Anyone who loves reading and writing about art, and who would like to develop professionally as an art critic, are welcome.<\/p>\n
