DIS is a New York based collective best known for DIS Magazine (2010-2017), and curating the 9th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art (2016). DIS has become an umbrella for a number of networked and collaborative platforms \u2013 all of which reimagine one format or another.<\/p>\n

Today DIS is focused on dis.art. While remaining true to the novel approaches to critical inquiry that defined life as a magazine, DIS is now focused on redefining entertainment and education through the new streaming platform on dis.art. DIS enlists writers, filmmakers, and artists to offer new forms of genre-bending edutainment that help cut through the atomization and polarization that defines the noisy, disjointed mediasphere. In the last century, public television programming meant that quality information, education and artistic formats could go hand in hand.<\/p>\n

In addition to their extensive online programming, through dis.art, DIS has exhibited widely throughout the USA and Europe with notable exhibitions at the DeYoung Museum, San Francisco; La Casa Encendida, Madrid; Project Native Informant, London UK; Art Basel, Hong Kong; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and Mus\u00e9e d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.<\/p>\n

Lauren Boyle [DIS]\n

The New York-based collective DIS; made up of Lauren Boyle, Solomon Chase, Marco Roso, and David Toro, works across a wide range of media. In 2018 the collective transitioned platforms from an online magazine, dismagazine.com, to a video streaming edutainment platform, dis.art, narrowing in on the future of education as entertainment. DIS enlists leading artists and thinkers to expand the reach of key conversations bubbling up through contemporary art, culture, activism, philosophy, and technology, with the aim to inform and mobilize a generation around the vital issues facing us today and tomorrow. DIS was a part of the New Museum Triennial Surround Audience curated by Lauren Cornell and Ryan Trecartin (2015), the group exhibition Co-Workers, at the Mus\u00e9e Moderne de la Ville de Paris (2015), and the new photography show at the Museum of Modern Art, New York (2015), curated the 9th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art, The Present in Drag, (2016), participated in the group exhibition, I was Raised on the Internet, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago (2018), as well as curated and participated in Genre-Nonconforming: The DIS Edutainment Network at the De Young, San Francisco (2017-18), Thumbs that Type and Swipe, Casa Encendida, Madrid (2018), A Good Crisis at the Baltimore Museum of Art (opens Nov 2018).<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
