Graduate School of International Arts
and Creative Studies: Overview and Curriculum
Tokyo University of the Arts was established in 1949 by integrating its predecessor institutions, the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and the Tokyo School of Music, which were founded in 1887. It is the only national comprehensive arts university in Japan.
The Graduate School and the Art Production Program were established in April 2016, offering a master’s program that can be completed in two years. A doctoral program was introduced in April 2018.
This graduate school approaches the relationship between art and society by intersecting and overlapping three research areas: « Art Management, » « Curation, » and « Research. » It has also achieved significant results in practical research projects, including projects related to globalization in art and culture, community-based art projects, and theoretical research and investigations that respond to the new era.
